New Restaurant #20 ... Rice Thai Cookery
We ate at
Rice Thai Cookery for the first time back in April. It was a random Friday night, and Dan and I both felt like going out to eat. He'd heard of this great little Thai place in downtown Milwaukie from a co-worker and decided to take me there to try it out.
It's a cute little place with a vintage hodge podge style and very good Thai food, which Dan and I both love. We got seated at a table for two and perused the menu for a little bit. I usually only order one of two things when I eat at any Thai restaurant, either Pad Thai or Pad See Ew.
A woman came over to greet us and take our order, and knew immediately that we were new there. She asked us if we liked seafood, and immediately recommended the catfish. I wasn't feeling that adventurous, but I did decide to try something new. I had the Mee Gai with chicken, which was very good. It was very thin noodles with peanut sauce and veggies. I love the veggies at Rice Thai Cookery. They are very fresh, and the carrots are cut crinkle style. Dan stuck with a usual, he had Pad Thai with no veggies.
We have since been back several times, just us and with friends and family, and now we are known there now by the woman who served us originally.
My favorite moment was one night when we ordered sticky rice for dessert after dinner. At Rice Thai Cookery you can have sweet sticky rice with or without mango. I'd had it before with Mango, and it was okay, but pretty expensive to add the mango, which isn't necessarily the freshest and juiciest. So on this particular evening, Dan ordered our sweet sticky rice and told the waitress, who'd served us a few times now, that we wanted it without the mango. She looked right at him and said, "No mango? It is not a vegetable!" We laughed so hard! Clearly, she had gotten to know us quite well, and had learned of Dan's aversion to vegetables. Such a funny moment.
