#22. See Celine Dion's show in Las Vegas, NV

I've been a huge fan of Celine Dion since junior high.  One of my very first CDs was a Celine Dion CD.  Titanic came out when I was just a freshman in high school, and I went and saw the movie 2 or 3 times in the theater.  Oh to be 14 again.

Well, when Celine did her first show in Vegas, I really wanted to see it, but never made it.  When I found out the show was over, I was a little bummed that I was never going to get the chance to see her.  A short while later, it was announced that she was signing another 5 year contact with Caesar's and I was thrilled.  I knew I was not going to miss her this time.

I added this to my 101 things list almost a year before her show opened in Las Vegas... Dan and I have been known to take a trip or two there, so I thought there might be a chance that I would get to her show while we were down there for a visit.  Logistically, I wasn't sure how I was going to pull this one off because I just couldn't see Dan going to this concert.  He's a really good sport about a lot of things but I knew he wasn't as big of a Celine fan as I was.  I just figured that at one point or another, we would go to Vegas with friends or family, and I would get someone to go to the concert with me, so Dan wouldn't have to.

Well, in March of this year, we found ourselves in Vegas once again.  I was down there for a tradeshow for work, and Dan tagged along with me.  We went a few days early to get some play time in.  Now that we've been to Vegas a few times together, we have our favorite places to go, things to do, and places to eat.  While we are there, Dan always likes to surprise me by planning a show or two, and this year was no exception.

March 25th... I cannot even begin to tell you how SHOCKED I was when Dan showed me the Ticketmaster tickets that read, "Celine Dion, The Colosseum at Caesars."  I about died.  I just could NOT believe it.  In all the times that Dan surprised me with show tickets in Vegas, this was by far the biggest surprise of them all.

After we ate dinner at Serendipity 3, one of our favorite spots that happens to be right near Caesar's, we made our way through the hotel and casino to the Colosseum.

This billboard is right outside Serendipity 3.  I'd passed this sign several times on a previous trip to Vegas.

When we got to the Colosseum theater, this is what was right outside the entrance into the theater....

The Colosseum is absolutely the most spectacular concert venue.  We were in the 2nd Balcony, front row, and the view was amazing.  I think the entire thing was customized especially for Celine's show, and it was gorgeous.  I was so unbelievably excited.  There were couples on either side of us, and when Dan left to go to the bathroom before the show, the woman on my right started chatting with me.  She and her husband were in Vegas on vacation, and she was as giddy to see Celine as I was.  Her husband on the other hand, had no idea who Celine Dion even was!  It was pretty funny.

A shot of the theater from our seats

When the show started, the curtains pulled back just a tiny bit, and there she was, standing all alone on a giant stage in a KILLER dress!  It was long and white and sparkly all over.  She looked phenomenal (no WAY did she just have twins five months ago!) and I literally got chills all over.  Listening to her sing on tv, or over the radio or from a CD just does NOT COMPARE to seeing her and hearing her LIVE.   She's phenomenal.

Overall the concert was absolutely amazing!  Hands down, the best concert I've ever seen.  She sang a couple of her hits, both old and new, and then she did songs from the movies, which was fun!  A full orchestra was backing her up, and they were all phenomenal too.  They would play and sing while she changed her outfit, which was often.  The stage had smaller moving stages within it, and ever so seamlessly, the orchestra would move around, split apart, come together, or move off stage altogether.  It was a small production, and it was done really, really well.  My favorite part was...

...the Michael Jackson tribute where three cellists played Smooth Criminal while Celine changed & thenCeline sang Man in the Mirror...
... or when she sang a duet with Stevie Wonder...
...and then when she sang a duet with herself (see if you can figure that one out)
... okay, okay, the whole show was my favorite part!

I also loved that she showed lots of home movies and video of her family and her children.   She knows that her fans like to see the personal side of her, and she is proud to show off her family and her kids.

We weren't allowed to take photos during the show which was a huge bummer, because I've always been able to take photos at every concert I've ever been to.  I was pretty disappointed that I wouldn't have anything to commemorate the event -- unless I wanted to buy an $85 program or a $90 t-shirt, thank you, no -- so on her final song, as the curtain was falling, I turned on my camera and snapped a photo.

It's not great, I didn't zoom, it's kinda blurry, and you'd never know it was Celine unless I told you, but I had one second to take it, and I got it!!!

After the show... me, Dan & Celine
