#44. Try 25 New Restaurants in Portland, OR

After the Shamrock Run, we knew we'd be hungry, so we had made plans to go out to breakfast afterwards. I picked Slappy Cakes because we'd passed it a few weeks earlier when it was closed and it looked fun.  I had never been there before either, which meant it qualified as one of my 25 restaurants for #44.  Slappy Cakes is officially number 19, in case you've lost count.

What's unique about Slappy Cakes is that you can make your own Slappy Cakes.  Yep, most of the tables have a built in griddle, so you can order your batter, and your mix-ins and make your own pancakes right at the table!  Pretty fun!

On this particular day, the place was hammered. Not surprising considering it was a Sunday morning, and the Shamrock run was wrapping up.  It was over an hour if we wanted to wait for our own griddle table, so we opted to sit at the bar.  Even without a griddle table, you can still customize your pancake order, so it's just as fun!

I ordered Apple and Bacon pancakes, made with Peanut Butter batter and regular syrup.  After running a 5k, it totally hit the spot.

I can't remember what they ordered, but Dan and Ian both ordered custom pancakes as well, and Brittney had an omelet instead of pancakes.

Of course Dan's custom pancakes had chocolate syrup...

It was really good, and a fun place, and I'd love to go again sometime. But it's one of those places you'd want to plan on going to an hour before you're really hungry, just so the wait doesn't make you cranky.
