#44. Try 25 New Restaurants in Portland, OR
I am VERY behind in my blogging these days. I'm checking things off my list, but I've been slammed at work lately, and working long days in the office. So by the time the evenings and weekends roll around, I really do not want to open my laptop if I don't have to.
Back in January, my friend Phil, whom I've known since the 5th grade, was home in Oregon for a little while, in between his international adventures in Korea and Costa Rice. He was celebrating his birthday and being the socialite that he is, planned a big dinner event out at Siam Society, a Thai Bar and Bistro on NE Alberta.
Brittney and I ended up going together because Dan was home sick with walking pneumonia and Ian was out of town for work. We both got there late because we had never really been to NE Alberta before, and parking is quite the task out there. We sat at a very long table with all of Phil's family and friends. We were down on the far end, with friends from high school, Brett, Rich and Tom. The evening turned into a mini reunion as we caught up with each other and talked about old time from high school.
The food was great too. I'm a big fan of Thai food, and this isn't your average Thai restaurant. Definitely has a modern twist, which was evident in the appetizer I ordered, the Sweet Potato Fries. They were delish! They are tossed in white truffle oil and battered with tempura. Very different for me, but very good.
I don't remember that well, but I am pretty sure I ended up ordered the Phad Thai or the Phad See Yu. Those are my go-to dishes at Thai restaurants. I do remember the food being really good over all. And I had lots of leftovers as well!
I didn't have my camera so I didn't take a picture that night... but a couple weeks later, Phil, Brittney and I were all together again, so we re-created the moment! :)
