Last year, after our church's Christmas Eve service, our friends, the Jablonskis and the Hensons, from our small group all went out to dinner together to a restaurant called Allium. As this last Christmas season arrived, both couples suggested making it a tradition and going to Allium after the Christmas Eve service again, but this time Dan and I would be joining the group along with Abi's brother and sister-in-law, Jacob and Natasha, who were passing through town that evening on their way to spend Christmas with Abi & Jacob's family in Albany.
Our schedules didn't all work out as well to attend the same service but we still made a reservation for dinner on December 23rd. It was a very fun evening with our fun friends, yummy food and yet one more thing that I would normally say no to.
Allium is in downtown West Linn and the funny thing is that we drive by this restaurant every Sunday on our way to church, but we have never been there. It is a great little neighborhood place with a yummy menu. The main highlight of the menu is their Duck Fat Fries. Yeah, you heard me. They cook up fries in Duck fat, and serve it with a to-die-for Aioli. As Dan would say, you could pretty much sit there and snack on just the fries and be totally content. But we decided to order dinner anyway. Dan had the Salmon special and I had the steak with polenta, which was delicious.
Before we actually ordered dinner, Scott had the idea to order a round of oyster shooters, which I had never really had before. I thought maybe I'd had oysters before, but then I realized that is something I usually say no to, and that I'd never actually had an oyster shooter.
So, out came the camera and the iPhone video camera and thus began the blog documentary of me saying yes to my first official oyster shooter. Thanks to Abi and Ben, my loyal readers and now my official paparazzi, for taking these pictures and video.
