We met at Cafe Nell, which is at the corner of 20th and Kearney. It's a cute little bar & restaurant, with a very al fresco feel... probably because there are large windows throughout the restaurant that open up to the outside. And since it was a very warm day in Portland that day, it was a nice atmosphere.
There were about 8 of us there for Kelsey's shower, and Erica had pre-ordered the evening's menu for us, which I loved, because sometimes it's hard making decisions on what to try at a new place! I usually want one of everything, and that is never good for the wallet or the waistline.
We started with a yummy champagne cocktail - limoncello in champagne. I'm not a huge fan of limoncello, but I loved this champagne cocktail! Delish! Then, the appetizers came out, an assortment of, well, "toast", for lack of a better word... there were several different kinds of toppings that came out on little pieces of toast... there was a pear gorgonzola one that was delicious, and a ham and cheese that was also very good. The marinara sauce and goat cheese combo stood out, although it was not my favorite. We also had fruit & cheese trays, artichokes with a lemon infused olive oil dipping sauce (which I tried the next day to re-create, albeit unsuccessfully). The food kept coming, and I was loving it, especially having run 10 miles (training for #47) earlier than morning, I was eating famished every 3 hours. Another round of drinks came out, the next was an Arnold Palmer, which one of my favorites.
We then had a salad course, which was also delicious, and very fresh... it was mixed greens, with arugula, I think, fresh strawberries, nuts, and a delicious vinaigrette. During all of this, we played fun shower games, all of which I was not very good at, but I had fun, nonetheless.
We watched Kelsey open up some fun shower presents, which is always one of my favorite parts. I gave Kelsey the "Travis pitcher" from Crate & Barrel... I saw it on her registry and couldn't resist, simply because Kelsey's fiance is Travis. It was too perfect! She opened some really fun presents that night, and it was fun to see her enjoying her moment as the Bride to Be!
After presents, we had dessert... the biggest brownie you've ever seen, topped with ice cream and caramel sauce! It was so good, and the ice cream was exactly the perfect thing on such a hot day!
We had such a fun time, it was an intimate and classy shower, and I had a blast. Erica was a fantastic hostess, and Kelsey has very fun friends! Her wedding is going to be a lot of fun and I can't wait!
PS. Kelsey, email me a group shot of everyone at the restaurant, so I can include it on my blog! :)
