We have a tradition of going to Salty's for their Valentine's Day brunch. It is very good, and it's a fun atmosphere, so Dan called Salty's to see if we could get in for Easter Brunch. When he called, they had one reservation slot open. He hung up with them, and called me back to ask what I thought. I said, "Sure, sounds great!" Well, by the time he called Salty's back, that time slot was filled, and they didn't have anything open anymore.
On Saturday, the day before Easter, we started calling around to different restaurants in Portland, to find a place that was having a special Easter Brunch. We called Bistro 921 and they had a reservation open at 12:30. It seemed too easy. We called a couple of other places and they were booked, so we decided to go with the Bistro 921 reservation. I was very hesitant though. Why were we able to get the perfect reservation time on the day before? I was sure that it was going to be a disaster.
On Easter Sunday, we woke up and went to the 10am service at our church. It was lots of fun, and jam-packed with people. I love Easter at church, because people get all dressed up, wear bright spring colors in the pouring down rain, and some ladies even pull out the big hats!
After church, we headed downtown. It was the most awful drizzly day. We had planned to get downtown early and walk around, but it was so cold, wet and dreary, I didn't want to walk anywhere. We got downtown almost an hour before our reservation, found a spot to park on the street right away. We did walk around for a little bit, past the Heathman Hotel & restaurant. We walked by the windows and stared at people having their morning breakfast. I was thinking, "Oh man, we should have eaten here instead!" I was still thinking that Bistro 921 was going to be a disaster.
Finally, we headed over to the Hilton, where Bistro 921 is located. We walked into the restaurant, and I was blown away! As we walked up to the hostess station to be seated, there were tables lining both sides of the corridor, and on those tables, was every kind of Easter dessert you could imagine, from jelly bean cupcakes to a chocolate fountain! I wanted to skip the meal entirely and start with dessert!! Wowzers!
We were still about 30 minutes early, but the hostess said that they could seat us early, it would just be a few minutes to get our table ready. While we were standing there, we glanced over and saw the bar area, with all tables fully set, but completely empty. There wasn't anyone in the bar area at all. So, we asked if we could sit there, and the hostess said it was open seating, so we could sit anywhere we liked. We picked a table for two right by the window! It was so perfect. All my worries were gone at this point, things were looking so good.
We went on enjoy the champagne brunch, filling ourselves with delicious food like ham, prime rib, and delicious mashed sweet potatoes! And of course, we had dessert! Lots and lots of dessert! The Easter Bunny even stopped by our table to give us Easter eggs.
It ended up being a fun day, and although I missed my family and our Easter dinner traditions, it was a wonderful Easter for me and my hubby. So much so, that a few weeks later, we took my mom back to Bistro 921 for Mother's Day brunch, where we enjoyed another delicious champagne brunch spread.
