#44. Try 25 New Restaurants in Portland, OR

On the Saturday of Labor Day weekend, I had plans to meet Cindy, Brittney and Faye for brunch down in the Pearl District.  Faye was in town for a quick visit, and the 4 of us always make a point to do something together when she is here visiting.
It was also perfect timing to celebrate Cindy & her new baby boy, who will be joining us this October.  Without mentioning the celebrating part to Cindy, the rest of us girls decided to surprise her with a mini baby shower at Brunch.

We met at isabel pearl, with an "it's a boy!" balloon and gifts in tow. It worked out perfectly that Cindy was the last to arrive, so we could surprise her.  What was funny was that, she was so happy to see all of us (I like to assume!) that it took a few minutes before she noticed the balloon tied to her chair and the gifts waiting to be opened!

The menu at Isabel has all sorts of things to tempt your palate...  we all seemed to have a hard time choosing...  but I ended up going with the avocado scramble...scrambled eggs with avocado & cheese, served with jalapeno potatoes, black beans & a tortilla.  yum.  Avocado, cheese and breakfast potatoes?! Sign me up!

I generally choose the savory-type breakfast meals over the sweet-type anyway, so it's saying a lot that when Faye shared some of her coconut french toast ...coconut bread grilled with coconut flakes on a palette of raspberry puree... I seriously started to doubt my own selection.  Everything was melt-in-your-mouth fantastic.  I had barely made a dent in my dish and I was already planning many more brunches at Isabel's.

And sure enough, exactly two weeks later, I was eating there again with my hubby... he had the king cakes...three pancakes with peanut butter, bananas & chocolate chips on a palette of raspberry puree... and this time, I got the coconut french toast for myself!   And who should we run into on our way out the door???  None other than Cindy and her husband Dave!  I guess we both became fans after our girl's Brunch.
