The Challenge...
The challenge is to create a list of 101 personal goals, a bucket list, if you will, that you want to complete in the next 1001 days... it's a way to list and track all the things you've ever wanted to do in a reasonable timeline.... 1001 days is about 2.75 years.... Read more about this challenge at http://www.dayzeroproject.com
I've had my own "Bucket List" for several years... I created it among my fellow RYLArians back in 2004 I believe. Slowly, but surely, I've crossed several amazing and wondering things off of that list... graduate from college, meet THE man of my DREAMS, get married, buy a house, travel to Bora Bora, own a dog... and while these are some amazing things to do in life, there is still so much more on my list, and so much more of my life left to live.
So as soon as I read about this challenge on the blog of my friend Amy, who I know from a leadership retreat several years back, I knew this was the project for me. I immediately felt sooo motivated to "get things done" and start living my life and doing the things that I dream of doing "someday" right NOW!
I started my list, by looking at the list I'd already created, and adding those up to make my list of 101 things... I didn't put everything on there, because there are some things I know I cannot accomplish in 1001 days, so they will stay on the "someday" list.
I didn't quite have 101 things, so I really had to work at adding things... I thought it would be really easy, but it was actually quite hard! I got some inspiration from other people who are doing this challenge, and from my amazing husband, because like it or not, he's going to be a part of this too! :)
There are things on this list that I feel like I just never have the time to do (#74 Making a final decision on the photos for our wedding album), things that will challenge me (#69 Give up TV for a week), charitable things (#45 Become a regular volunteer) and things that just seem really, really fun (#36 Ride in a Hot Air Balloon).
I intend to write a blog post about this entire experience, sharing stories or pictures every time I cross something off my list... it's my way of sharing this with you, and also a way to be held accountable. Let me know if you like something I did, want to know more, or better yet, if I've inspired you to do your own 101 in 1001 challenge. I'm hoping to inspire at least 5 people to do this challenge with me... see #99.
With that said... here we go! :)

Holy Cow Laura - that's great!! I'm impressed that you came up with such a long list...and all in 1001 days? Good luck to you and hopefully I can help you cross off one or two :). Much love and maybe I'll start working on one of my own. - Faye
ReplyDeleteLaura I love your list! I can't wait to follow your progress. GOOD LUCK!!
ReplyDeleteLaura, this is great! I saw the link on your Facebook. The challenge and your list is very inspiring. I especially like #8. Make a t-shirt quilt ... that's something I've wanted to do for years but not quite sure how to tackle it. Do you have a pattern or something in mind? I like #14. Plant a vegetable garden too; another goal we have in common. And #27. Read "Captivating," is that the one by John and Stasi Eldridge? It's fantastic. I wish you the best in crossing things of your list ... seriously considering starting one of my own too.
ReplyDeleteLaura, Love this blog...now I need to find that list you made. Almost thinking I should do this myself, but wondering if I have time...ha ha ha...but, maybe you find a way to create more time by doing this! :-)
