#44. Try 25 New Restaurants in Portland, OR

New Restaurant #1...  H50 Bistro & Bar

A couple of weeks ago, we headed downtown to Hotel Fifty for Happy Hour in the hotel restaurant, H50 Bistro & Bar.  We went with Britt and Ian as we were celebrating Ian's Birthday, July 30th and Dan's Birthday, August 1st.

Britt and I had gotten together a few days before and we were going to give the guys a couple of choices on where to go for dinner... but when we pulled up the H50 Bar Menu, we made the decision for them! Ha!

Fast forward to Saturday, July 31st, the four of us had just had a fun day up at Oneonta Gorge, hiking around, exploring, and working up a major appetite.  We hopped in the car and headed downtown to happy hour...  This hotel & restaurant are located right on Naito Parkway, across from Waterfront Park.  They have complimentary valet parking available if you're eating in the restaurant.  The hotel and restaurant both have a cool, fun, modern atmosphere.  Oh and the food ain't so bad either... we ordered the Bleu Cheese Burger, the Fancy Fries, the PDX Roll and the Cheese Plate.  Everything was so well done, very tasty.  Even when I forgot to say "hold the mushrooms" on the burger, it ended up being no big deal, because it was so well prepared, there was no icky mushroomy taste.  If you're a sushi fan, you'll probably love the PDX roll... smoked salmon, cream cheese, cucumber, and then toasted hazelnuts on the outside, mmm!  But the clear stand out on their menu is the Fancy Fries... they're just fancy and there are not enough words to describe just how wonderful they taste.  Picture the skinny little bistro type fries, made with parmesean, chive, truffle and spices... oh man, just imagining them makes my saliva glands kick into full gear.  They were so tasty, that Dan passed on the ketchup, and that is saying a lot!

A couple more cool things about this restaurant.... Every month, the restaurant names a Sushi Roll after a local celebrity, and half of the sales of that roll go to a local charity!  Our waitress told us they have a promo on Tuesdays called "Toss-up Tuesdays" (not sure how long this is/was going on) but if you dine in the main restaurant on a Tuesday, at the end of your meal, you server brings a coin to the table, flips it, and you call heads or tails.  If you call it right, your meal is free (except for alcoholic beverages).

I would definitely recommend this restaurant, and am looking forward to our next visit!  Mmm... fancy fries...
